VANCOUVER, BC – What does a career in hospitality really look like?
The BC Hotel Association (BCHA) is exploring that question with The Check-In, a new six-part video series filmed at hotels and resorts throughout the province. It takes viewers behind the scenes to meet the people and explore the career paths that make hospitality such a unique industry to work in.
Hosted by BCHA summer intern and UBC Sauder student Ella Chow, the series follows her as she sits down with industry professionals to hear how they got their start, where their careers have taken them, and what they love about the work they do.
“Hospitality is a profession built on people and an incredible diversity of career paths,” said Paul Hawes, President & CEO of the BC Hotel Association. “With The Check-In, we wanted to elevate those opportunities while giving Ella the chance to experience our sector firsthand, learn directly from the people who make it so special, and have a little fun along the way.”
Filmed in Vancouver, Richmond, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, and Victoria, The Check-In introduces viewers to professionals working in hotel operations, revenue management, sustainability, leadership, spa operations, and guest experience roles. Their stories reveal an industry where careers rarely follow a straight line, and where curiosity, ambition and a willingness to try something new can open unexpected doors.
For Chow, filming the series offered a chance to experience hospitality well beyond what she could have learned from behind a desk.
“Getting to sit down with people across the industry and hear their stories completely changed how I view the depth of careers in this field,” said Chow. “Building this series was all about capturing those authentic moments, and I hope their journeys inspire yours as much as they did mine.”
The first two episodes of The Check-In premiered in August, with new episodes rolling out through early fall. The series is designed as both an introduction to hospitality careers and a resource for students, educators and job seekers interested in discovering where a career in the industry can lead.
